AdvisorTrac: Advising At a Distance

One aspect of the new advising model is that prioritizes pairing students with an advisor with experise in their program of study versus an advisor located on their campus.  This means that we must all be prepared to work with students at a distance.

Email and telephone allow us to do this.  Here are some suggestions for working with students at-a-distance:

• Contact your students at the start of academic advising and provide them with instructions on how you wish them to contact you.  These contact tips can serve as reference for drafting that message:

• Encourage students who wish to use email, to send you a completed a Student Contact Form.
• Rather than play phone tag with students, encourage them to make an appointment in AdvisorTrac and then to call you in lieu of visiting your office.
